Often dubbed the “Scotland of the East,” Shillong is renowned for its striking resemblance to the Scottish Highlands, with its lush green landscapes and tranquil environment offering a perfect escape into nature.

    Today, embark on a day trip to Cherrapunjee, making stops along the way at the picturesque Elephant Falls and Shillong Peak. Elephant Falls is renowned for its cascading beauty and is named for a rock formation resembling an elephant. Shillong Peak offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding hills and valleys.

    Cherrapunjee is famous for being one of the wettest places on earth. While in Cherrapunjee, visit the illuminated Mawsmai Cave, known for its stunning stalactite and stalagmite formations.

    Marvel at the Mawsmai Falls, a captivating waterfall that cascades down in a multi-tiered fashion, and Nohkalikai Falls, one of the tallest waterfalls in India. Explore Khrem Falls, another scenic waterfall in the area, and visit Thankarang Park, which provides a sweeping panoramic view of the neighboring country of Bangladesh.

    Shillong - Khaziranga (By Surface)

    Post breakfast, drive approximately 7 hours to Kaziranga National Park. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Kaziranga spans 430 square kilometers and features a diverse landscape that includes elephant grass, thorny rattan cane, semi-evergreen forests, and shallow swamps.

    Declared a sanctuary in 1916, the park was established primarily to protect the Indian Greater One-Horned Rhinoceros, a species that was critically endangered at the time. Today, Kaziranga is home to 80% of the world’s population of this distinctive rhino. The park is renowned for its rich biodiversity and serves as a vital habitat for various other wildlife species, including tigers, elephants, and various bird species.

    En route, visit the charming town of Tezpur, known for its historical significance and scenic beauty. In Tezpur, explore the ancient ruins of Da Parbatia Temple, which dates back to the 5th–6th centuries. This historical site offers a glimpse into the region's rich cultural heritage and architectural styles from ancient times.

    Upon arrival at Nameri National Park, check into an eco-camp for an immersive nature experience. The eco-camp provides a unique opportunity to stay close to nature and enjoy the park's serene environment.

    Nameri - Dirang (By Surafce)

    En route, visit the Tippi Orchid Centre, which houses around 500 varieties of orchids, showcasing the incredible biodiversity of the region. Next, explore the Sessa Orchid Sanctuary, which is home to a rich collection of orchid species and is an important conservation area.

    Post breakfast, drive to Tawang, traversing a dramatic landscape that includes waterfalls, terraced paddy fields, alpine forests, and mountain streams. As you ascend to the Sella Pass, which stands at 4,249 meters, you will experience a stark change in scenery from lush greenery to a more barren, rugged terrain. This high-altitude pass offers panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and valleys.

    En route, make a poignant stop at Jaswantgarh, a moving memorial dedicated to the soldier Jaswant Singh Rawat, his fiancée, and her friend. This memorial honors their brave efforts to halt the advancing Chinese army during the Sino-Indian War of 1962. The site provides a glimpse into the historical significance of the region and the sacrifices made during the conflict.

    Tawang Sightseeing
