    Arrival at Bagdogra Airport & Transfer to Gangtok (By Surface)

    Arrival assistance at Bagdogra airport and Drive to Gangtok.

    Upon arrival at Bagdogra airport, you can proceed to Gangtok, the capital city of Sikkim, situated at an altitude of 1750m. Established as the state capital in the mid-19th century, Gangtok has witnessed rapid development. The downtown area is notable for its imposing government buildings adorned with traditional Buddhist symbols. Gangtok also serves as a convenient base for travelers heading to North Sikkim. Surrounded by monasteries and orchids, Gangtok offers a delightful experience for travelers.

    Gangtok Sightseeing

    After breakfast, proceed with sightseeing in Gangtok, visiting Rumtek Monastery, Do Drul Chorten, and Enchey Monastery.

    Rumtek Monastery: Located 24 km from Gangtok, Rumtek Monastery is an awe-inspiring site and the world Dharma Chakra Centre, serving as the seat of His Holiness, the Gyalwa Karmapa, head of the Kagyupa order of Tibetan Buddhism. Behind the main monastery stands the lavishly decorated Karmae Nalanda Institute of Buddhist Studies, attracting students worldwide. Opposite the institute's entrance is a hall featuring the beautiful jewel-studded Golden Stupa, housing the ashes of His Holiness the XVI Gyalwa Karmapa. Legend has it that the first Karmapa, after years of meditation, received congratulations from ten thousand fairies, each offering a strand of hair woven into a black hat, still preserved at Rumtek Monastery today.

    Enchey Monastery: Perched on a ridge above Gangtok, Enchey Monastery offers a spectacular view of the town and is surrounded by lush woods. Built in 1910 on the site of the hermitage of Lama Drutob Karpo, a great tantric saint known for his levitation abilities, this monastery is home to monks of the Nyingmapa Order of Tibetan Buddhism.

    Adjacent to the institute are two exquisite stupas: the Do Drul Chorten, built to commemorate the victory of good over evil, and the Jhang Chub Chorten, dedicated to Thrukshik Rinpoche, a devoted spiritualist and interpreter of Buddhism. Nearby are two giant statues of Lord Buddha and Guru Padmasambhava, also known as Guru Rimpoche, the patron saint of Sikkim.

    Gangtok Sightseeing

    After breakfast at the hotel, enjoy a full-day excursion to Tsomgo Lake and return.

    Tsomgo Lake: Located 35 km from Gangtok at an altitude of 12,400 feet, Tsomgo Lake is a stunning beauty that freezes over in winter, fed by melting snows from surrounding mountains. According to legend, lamas could predict the future by studying the lake's water color. Fishing is strictly prohibited, and visitors are urged to maintain the lake's sanctity by not littering. Beyond the 15th Mile Sikkim Police check post lies the unique high-altitude Kyongnosla Alpine Sanctuary, home to the Red Panda (state animal) and the Blood Pheasant (state bird) of Sikkim.

    Ganagtok - Lachen (By Surface)

    Breakfast at the hotel and drive to Lachen.

    Located at the confluence of the Lachen and Lachung rivers, this small town is a well-known tourist spot due to its scenic beauty, attracting many visitors who come to capture breathtaking images to share with friends and family. To experience this, prepare for an early morning 6-hour drive to reach the town. Enjoy lunch in Chungthang and continue your journey to Lachen, another popular tourist destination surrounded by snow-capped peaks. Situated in the northern district of Sikkim, Lachen is renowned for its diverse vegetation and natural charm. It's one of the less populated towns in India with sparse housing, offering insights into the native lifestyles of the Tibetans and Bhutia tribes.

    Explore its significant attractions, such as the Shingbha Wildlife Sanctuary—ideal for trekking amidst diverse flora and fauna, Chopta Valley—a prominent valley known for its vast shades and rare natural species, and Thangu—a perfect retreat for nature enthusiasts.

    Check into a well-constructed hotel where you'll be welcomed with tea to unwind and re-energize in the cold weather. Spend your evening exploring the local Lepcha village. Afterward, return to your cozy room for a peaceful rest, preparing for an early start the next morning.

    Lachen - Chopta Valley Excursion - Lachung (By Surface)

    Breakfast at the hotel and proceed to visit Chopta Valley and Thangu.

    Chopta Valley: Another significant attraction near Lachen, Chopta Valley is renowned for its diverse shades, particularly noticeable during the summer season. Upon arrival, you'll be greeted by abundant shrubs that replace tall trees, offering a wide expanse of scenery.     Proceed to Lachung: Leave for Lachung, a picturesque landscape where towering mountains stand guard, waterfalls cascade creating a roar, and Glacier River contributes to the cold air. This charming village is surrounded by Rhododendron forests, adding to its appeal for tourists. Covering nearly 50 kilometers in a 2-hour drive, you'll arrive at this land of natural splendor.

    Lachung - Yumthang - Gangtok (By Surface)

    After breakfast, drive to Pelling, which is located approximately 120 km from Gangtok. Pelling is a serene mountain village situated in the western districts of Sikkim at an altitude of approximately 2000 meters. It offers spectacular views of Mount Kanchenjunga.

    Pelling - Darjeeling (By Surface)

    Breakfast at the hotel and drive to Darjeeling.

    Darjeeling: Nestled high in the Himalayas at an altitude of 2134m, Darjeeling, known as ‘Dorje Ling’ or place of the Thunderbolt, offers breathtaking views of snow-capped peaks, with Mount Kanchendzonga towering above all. Often referred to as the “Queen of the Hills,” Darjeeling retains its allure with tiny waterfalls, quaint villages, and a narrow gauge railway track. Surrounded by world-famous tea gardens and snow-capped mountains, Darjeeling remains one of the most exotic destinations. Graeme Westlake in his book ‘An Introduction to Hill Stations of India’ describes Darjeeling as having “A view scarcely unrivalled on Earth.”

    Darjeeling Sightseeing

    Early morning visit to Tiger Hill for sunrise and back.

    Tiger Hill: Located 13 km from Darjeeling, Tiger Hill offers a spectacular view of the sunrise over the Himalayan Range, including Kanchenjunga and even Mount Everest. Witness the horizon changing colors before sunrise, turning the entire Himalayan range golden. It's truly a majestic sight.

    After breakfast at the hotel, proceed for sightseeing:

    Himalayan Mountaineering Institute/Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park: Founded in Darjeeling after Tenzing Norgay's Everest ascent, the institute offers training in mountaineering and other adventure sports. Visitors can see equipment used by Tenzing Norgay and explore the Everest Museum. Adjacent is the Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park, home to Himalayan animals such as the Snow Leopard, Tibetan Wolf, Tibetan Yak, Himalayan Black Bear, and various bird species.

    Japanese Temple & Peace Pagoda: Also known as Nipponzan Myohoji Buddhist Temple, this shrine was built in 1972 and exemplifies classic Japanese architecture. Located a short distance from Darjeeling town center on Jalapahar Hill, it provides a serene space for meditation and inner peace.

    Tibetan Self-Help Centre or Refugee Centre: (Closed on Sundays) Run by Tibetan refugees, this center aims to preserve Tibetan handicrafts. Visitors can observe the making of Tibetan Carpets, leatherwork, paintings, and wooden crafts.

    Darjeeling - Kalimpong (By Surface)

    Post breakfast, drive to Kalimpong.

    Kalimpong: Located in the Himalayan foothills of West Bengal, Kalimpong is an eastern Indian hill town. Perched on a ridge above the Teesta River, it features colonial-era buildings such as the MacFarlane Memorial Church, named after a Scottish missionary. The hilltop Durpin Monastery, also known as Zang Dhok Palri Phodang, houses sacred Buddhist scriptures. Deolo Park offers landscaped gardens and panoramic views of the town and surrounding hills.
