Leh — The Ancient Capital
Leh, the capital of Ladakh, sits in a wide valley at 3,524 metres, dominated by the ruins of the 17th-century Leh Palace above and surrounded by a ring of Himalayan peaks. The old town — a warren of whitewashed lanes, prayer wheels, and chortens (Buddhist shrines) — rewards unhurried exploration.
The first two days in Leh are dedicated to acclimatisation — essential at this altitude. We design gentle half-day programmes for this period: the Leh Palace, Shanti Stupa at sunset, and the excellent local market, allowing the body to adjust before more demanding excursions.

The Ancient Monasteries
Ladakh's defining cultural treasures are its Buddhist monasteries — Hemis, Thiksey, Diskit, Lamayuru, Alchi — each extraordinary in its own character. Hemis, the largest and wealthiest monastery in Ladakh, houses rare thangka paintings and conducts the famous Hemis Festival (June–July), when masked Cham dances celebrate Guru Padmasambhava's birthday in a spectacle of colour and devotion.
Thiksey, modelled on the Potala Palace in Lhasa, rises in dramatic tiers above the Indus Valley and offers perhaps the most visually striking monastery exterior in Ladakh. We arrange private morning access timed for the monks' dawn prayer ceremony.
The Nubra Valley — Luxury Camping in the Dunes
A day's drive from Leh, crossing the Khardung La pass (one of the world's highest motorable roads, at 5,359 metres), the Nubra Valley opens into a surprise: a desert valley with sand dunes, Bactrian camels, and a microclimate warm enough for apricot orchards. At 4,350 metres, Pangong Tso is one of the world's highest and most beautiful saltwater lakes — 134 kilometres long, stretching from India into Tibet, and famous for changing colour through a dozen shades of blue, turquoise, and violet through the day. It is a three-hour drive from Leh across one of the most dramatic mountain roads on earth.

Best Time to Visit Ladakh
Ladakh is accessible from late May through mid-October, when the mountain passes are clear of snow. June, July, August, and September are the primary months — with July and August warmest. The Hemis Festival occurs in June or July (dates vary by the Tibetan lunar calendar). September offers excellent weather with fewer visitors.
