Negombo - Kalady (By Surface)
Post breakfast, drive to Kandy.
Kandy is a charming city, the Hill Capital and last stronghold of the Sinhala Kings, retaining an aura of grandeur through the ages. Encircled by hills and featuring a tranquil lake in its center, Kandy is home to the renowned Temple of the Tooth and the Royal Botanical Gardens, which boast one of the best collections of orchids in the country. Kandy and its surrounding villages are also centers for traditional handicrafts, and its traditional dances are among the most spectacular in Sri Lanka.
En route, visit the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, situated on the banks of the Maha Oya. This sanctuary primarily houses young elephants displaced from their natural habitats due to environmental changes or abandonment. The most interesting times to visit are during feeding or bathing sessions when the herd (typically 40-50 elephants) moves from the orphanage to the river, often passing through narrow streets.
